The Story

behind the
movement

"I always tried to play a great game — and now I build the field for others to do the same."

Michael Chabala
The Player

Michael Chabala grew up in Fresno, California, where soccer wasn't just a sport — it was a language. He earned a scholarship to the University of Washington, where he studied Economics and graduated in just 3.5 years with the Class of 2006.

Drafted by the Houston Dynamo in 2006, Michael went on to win back-to-back MLS Cup Championships in 2006 and 2007 — the first two in franchise history. He was named to the MLS Team of the Week in 2012 and served as a Players Union Representative during his time with D.C. United.

Over nine professional seasons across three MLS clubs — Houston Dynamo, Colorado Rapids, and D.C. United — Michael built a reputation as a technically gifted, tactically intelligent left-back who led by example on and off the pitch.

When he retired, he didn't walk away from the game. He built something new with it.
